Swapbar vs Claude Usage Tracker

Claude Usage Tracker and Swapbar are the two menu bar apps closest to each other: both show several Claude accounts and switch between them. The difference is where the accounts live. Claude Usage Tracker manages its own profiles; Swapbar is a front end for claude-swap.

Pick Swapbar if

  • You already use claude-swap, or want your accounts managed from the terminal too.
  • You don’t want to paste claude.ai session keys into an app.
  • You want local token and cost per account, read from Claude Code’s transcripts.
  • You want the alert to suggest the account with the most quota left.

Pick Claude Usage Tracker if

  • You don’t want to install claude-swap.
  • You want a notch display or a terminal status line.
  • You also want Codex usage in the same app.
  • You want the app in a language other than English.

Who owns the accounts

Claude Usage Tracker keeps its own profiles. It signs in through claude.ai, a session key, Claude Code’s credentials or a Console API key, can sync credentials to the Claude Code CLI, and adds launchers per profile. Swapbar keeps nothing of its own: claude-swap holds the accounts, and Swapbar shows and switches them. Anything you do with cswap in the terminal shows up in Swapbar, and the other way round.

Switching

Both can switch for you. Claude Usage Tracker switches profile when the session limit is hit. Swapbar runs claude-swap’s switch on a click or ⌃⌥⇧S, and its settings window edits claude-swap’s own auto-switch thresholds, strategy and cooldown.

Cost

Swapbar reads the transcripts Claude Code writes on your Mac and totals tokens and cost for today and the last 30 days, per model and per account. Claude Usage Tracker reports API cost per profile from the Console.

Questions

Is Claude Usage Tracker the same as Claude Usage?
No. Claude Usage Tracker is Hamed Elfayome’s app with profiles; Claude Usage is a smaller single-account menu bar app by Rich Hickson.
Do I need claude-swap for Swapbar?
Yes. Swapbar reads accounts and quotas from cswap and switches with it. Install claude-swap and add your accounts there first.
Which one is lighter?
Both are native. Swapbar is a 3.8 MB download and runs in about 50 MB of memory.

Keep your limits in view.
